Inkberrow, the model for the Archers’ famous village of Ambridge, welcomes the Elgar Chorale of Worcester in July and it will be the ideal way to celebrate a (hopefully) warm and balmy summer evening. The Chorale will present a programme of popular pieces (think Classic FM) by composers including Brahms, Mendelssohn, Handel and Fauré and an opportunity for the audience to join in and sing along to pieces ranging from Jerusalem to a medley from Oklahoma!

St Peter’s Church, Inkberrow is a lovely space and the concert starts at 7pm on Saturday 6th July to take full advantage of the evening sun and to enjoy a glass of summer punch together. Pershore Broad Street Market launched Saturday, 1st June, 2024.

Pershore Place Board proudly announces the successful launch of Pershore Broad Street Market. The first market took place on Saturday, 1st June, 2024, marking a new era for community engagement and local commerce.

The event, held in the heart of Pershore, drew a fantastic response from residents and visitors alike. Attendees enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere and diverse array of offerings, with many stalls experiencing unprecedented success, selling out of their wares. From baked goods to farm-fresh produce, artisanal crafts, and local plants, the market showcased the best of Pershore's talent and produce.

"We are thrilled by the turnout at the launch of Pershore Broad Street Market," remarked Darren Eden, Chair of Pershore Place Board. "It's wonderful to witness the community come together to support local producers. We want to thank all who joined us in making this event a success.”

This market represents not just a celebration of Pershore's history as a market town but also a promising step towards a prosperous future for the community.

All participating stalls hail from within a 10-mile radius of Pershore, ensuring that every purchase made contributes directly to the local economy. The market is a collaborative effort, made possible through funding from Wychavon District Council and facilitated by PEFA, with sponsorship from Pershore Place Board.

The market is not-for-profit, with all surplus funds dedicated to supporting Pershore's annual calendar of events to enrich the cultural appeal of the town.

The success of the launch has set the stage for an exciting journey ahead. As Pershore looks towards the future, the market honours tradition while embracing innovation.

Pershore Broad Street Market:  Successful launch marks a milestone in local community support

Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Councils have become the first councils in Worcestershire to be formally recognised for their commitment to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Both councils have achieved INclusive Worcestershire Leaders status, meaning they are at the forefront of best practices, committed to diversity and inclusion, and a role model for other organisations to follow.

The scheme is run by Worcestershire Growth Hub and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership. It promotes the benefits to companies of embracing diversity and inclusion to support staff and grow their workforce.

Both councils are Disability Confident Employers, a government scheme encouraging companies to recruit and retain staff with disabilities and health conditions.

They have an equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) lead who delivers employee training and drives the councils’ approach to EDI on top of their day-to-day job. Employees also volunteer to act as Health and Wellbeing Champions to promote awareness and other support to colleagues.

Both councils also work closely with schools and colleges on work placements, employment talks, events and visits to create opportunities for young people.

A Pershore-based male voice choir has made a fresh appeal for men to come and sing with them. Vale Harmony The A Cappella Fellas have just performed at a well-received Flower Festival Concert in All Saints Church in the village of Church Lench and now want to go from strength to strength over the next few months.

“We did remarkably well as an octet but we want to return to our pre-pandemic numbers of around sixteen members, “ said the chair of the chorus, Chris Dobbins. “Our entertaining style of four-part harmony sung without musical accompaniment is very distinctive and hugely enjoyable. We’re different from other choirs and all we ask is that potential male singers give us a try and find out for themselves what fun it is.”

“There have been a lot of new homes built around Pershore in recent years and we’re sure there must be some untapped talent out there”, Chris added.

David Annis from Pershore has been selected to swim for Great Britain in the Junior Europeans in Lithuania at the beginning of July.

18-year-old David was first selected to swim for GB in December 2023 where he travelled to Canada with the team and competed at his first international meet. 

David took home five medals, four silver and a gold in the 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay where the team took the European junior record.

David continued his success in the recent British Championships in London where his performance gained him a place in the GB Junior team competing in Lithuania.

David will race in the 400 and 200 individual medley, 400 and 200 freestyle and the 4 x 200 freestyle relay.

“David is a dedicated, hardworking athlete who has been a great role model to so many swimmers throughout the county. We wish him every success.”

Pershore Swimming Club qualified and competed in the SwimGainz A Final at the Alan Higgs Sports Centre in Coventry on Saturday 1st June.

The team finished in 5th place after some really strong swims from the young up and coming swimmers at the club. 

Head Coach Tom Naughton said “Great to see the young swimmers really racing hard to win, putting into the race what they had been working on in training. Well done to everyone!”

If you have ever fancied the idea of sitting and quietly carving your own utensils out of wood, here is your opportunity.

A local workshop provider has teamed up with a talented craftsman, who makes beautiful and practical items using wood from the forest he manages, to offer an interesting and creative workshop.

Local craftsman, Harry Samuel, will be heading to the village of Birlingham, near Pershore, to teach a Spatula and Butter Spreader Carving Workshop at Three Little Pigs on Sunday 7th July 2024.

The workshop is designed for complete beginners and promises to be a relaxed and informative day, with a keen focus on promoting mindfulness. During the day you will be shown the basics of carving green wood, using an edge tool to successfully craft your own functional and ergonomic utensils.

The workshop will run from 10am until 4pm and will include a pause for lunch partway through the day.

‘Wood' you like to carve your own utensils?

Cricket lovers will have the chance to gain an insight into the art of fast bowling at an event, in aid of Worcestershire’s Joe Leach’s Testimonial, later this month.

The Fast Men event will take place at The King Charles House in Worcester on Tuesday 30th July at 7.30pm.

There will be four guest speakers Joe Leach, Big Al Richardson, Adam Finch and New Zealander Nathan Smith.

Cricket lovers - the art of fast bowling at an event

Pershore Town Choir will be singing in the Bandstand in Abbey Park, Pershore on Saturday 6th July 2024 between 12 noon  and 1:30pm.

Choir Director David Barclay says “We hope for a good audience, so are calling on music lovers to bring a picnic and enjoy the sweet sounds of the choir. There's nowhere nicer than the Abbey Park for a picnic in what we hope will be balmy summer weather – and nowhere nicer to relax and listen to good music from the Town's own Choir.”

The choir has been working on several new pieces recently, so will be singing a mixture of familiar and new music.

David adds “We hope you'll enjoy our singing. If you do, why not join the choir? Come along to one of our rehearsals at 7.30on a Wednesday evening in Holy Redeemer School, Priest Lane. You don't have to be able to read music just as long as you can follow a tune.”
